Create Your Own Koi Pond with Poposoap Products

Site Selection & Design Planning

The first step to creating an ideal pond starts with choosing the right location!

Choose a flat area: avoid ground undulations or water accumulation points to facilitate later layout and maintenance.

Stay away from fallen leaves: avoid under large trees to reduce the frequency of cleaning.

Recommended size: 2m x 3m is a friendly start for beginners, with reasonable space and easy construction.

Balance of light and shade: Sufficient sunlight helps water circulation, but moderate shade is also needed to avoid excessive water temperature.

Excavation & Bottom Arrangement of the Pond

Marking & Positioning

Mark the positions and shapes with chalk or water pipes.

Hierarchical Mining

Suggested to divide it into two floors to facilitate the arrangement of vegetation and the rest of fish.

Laying Materials

Use anti-seepage fabric + pebbles:

  • Anti-seepage fabric: Prevents water leakage.
  • Pebbles: They are aesthetically pleasing and conducive to the adhesion of probiotics, stabilizing the ecosystem.

Installation of the Filtration System

The filtration system is the "lungs" of the pond, keeping the water body clear, flowing and ecologically healthy.

Prepare the Core Equipment

Strongly recommended:

Purchase Poposoap pump and filter box kits

Poposoap multi-layer filter box: It features a dual biological and physical filtration structure, with built-in biochemical balls, filter cotton, and ceramic rings, which help remove impurities from water and stabilize water quality.

Pump selection:

For areas without electricity: Choose the Poposoap solar pump, which is environmentally friendly and energy-saving. It comes with a long cable and a nozzle kit.

If power supply is used: It is recommended to pair it with the Poposoap high-efficiency AC pump, which has strong power and is suitable for large water volume demands.

System Connection Logic

The water pump is installed in the deep area at the bottom of the pond
The outlet pipe is connected to the water inlet of the filter box
The filtered clear water can be led to the surface or the waterfall outlet through the return pipe to form a circulation

Install the Poposoap Fountain & Pump

Connect the fountain nozzle to the water outlet of the water pump (the pump can be used for multiple purposes through a three-way connection pipe).

The base of the fountain should be stably placed in the shallower area of the pool to ensure that the water column sprays vertically.

Adjust the direction and style of the sprinkler heads (such as showerhead shape, umbrella shape, bubble column, etc.) to match the style of the courtyard.

Before & After

Let the water "come alive", and beauty will be more vibrant!

Decoration & Koi Entering the Pond

A truly outstanding pond is not only characterized by clear water, but also by its natural harmony and magnificent beauty.

Arrangement of Aquatic Plants

Choose ecological water-purifying plants, such as:

  • Myriophyllum verticillatum: Absorbs nitrogen and phosphorus to prevent algal blooms.
  • Water onion/Cattails: Suitable for edge planting, providing shade and temperature regulation.
  • Duckweed/water spinach: It can float on the surface, lower water temperature, provide shade and inhibit algae.

Arrange in layers according to the principle of "low at the front and high at the back" to create a sense of layering

Edge Beautification Design

  • Use pebbles, boulders and wooden stakes to naturally enclose the edges.
  • Small Bridges, wooden walkways and sculptures can be added to enhance the sense of landscape.
  • It is recommended to retain natural gentle slopes or wet areas to attract creatures such as frogs and dragonflies to settle in.

Fish Release & Biological Balance

  • Koi, goldfish and snails (such as apple snails) can be placed in to help with ecological circulation.
  • Test the water quality before the initial application (pH 6.5-7.5, ammonia nitrogen <0.1).
  • Pay attention to density control and avoid overfeeding.

Subsequent Ecological Maintenance

  • Observe the water body condition every week and remove dead leaves and overgrown aquatic plants.
  • Use probiotics and add nitrifying bacteria bricks every month to maintain water quality.
  • Clean the filtration system every quarter to ensure smooth flow.
