In this article, we'll show you how to create a budget-friendly solar water fountain for your garden or backyard. This project is simple and only costs $57, making it a great option for anyone looking to add a charming water feature without breaking the bank.
What You’ll Need:
Pot – We got this from Costco for $16.99.
Water Pump – We ordered this from Poposoap.
Drill – For creating a hole in the pot.
Solar Cable – For connecting the pump to the solar panel.
Metal Wire – We purchased an 8-foot sheet for $15.99 from Home Depot.
PVC Tube – For assembling the pump system.
Rocks – We used River Rock from our backyard, but any rocks will work.
5-Gallon Bucket – To hold the pump setup.
Sprayer Nozzles – To adjust water spray styles.
Step-by-Step Installation:
Drill the Hole: Start by drilling a hole in the pot for the water pump. Be careful not to start the pump before placing the solar panel in the sun, as it will start running automatically.
Attach the Solar Pump: Open the pump box and connect the extension tube to the pump. Make sure to feed the cable through the hole in the pot. We used a Dremel to cut the wire, but you can use regular wire clippers if needed.
Install the Nozzle: Select the spray nozzle based on the water flow style you prefer. Attach it to the pump, and connect the tube to the pump.
Place the Pump in the Bucket: Now, place the pump at the bottom of the 5-gallon bucket. Add the metal wire mesh on top to hold the rocks in place. This will stabilize the fountain.
Add Water: Fill the bucket with water and place the rocks around the edge. Ensure the pump is positioned correctly, and everything is centered.
Connect and Test the Solar Panel: Connect the solar panel and position it in direct sunlight. Plug it into the pump, and watch the water start flowing! Adjust the nozzle to change the spray pattern to your liking.
Final Result:
Once set up, you’ll have a beautiful, low-cost solar water fountain. The gentle sound of the flowing water adds a calming atmosphere to your garden, and it's a hit with birds, insects, and even fairies!
